What Is Viewpoint Media Player
How can the answer be improved?
I just received a pop-up without any way of closing it. This is bizarre to me. It is staying on top of all open files and is waiting for me to approve the update. It reads this way: (Blue column to the left with an eye-shaped logo and the word Viewpoint.
The white section to the right says: You have been Updated. Your Viewpoint Media Player was recently updated with the latest components to enhance your web viewing. A new browser update is recommended, including advanced pop-up blocking and graphically enhanced search. Then there is a clickable button saying 'Update' Below that there is a note that says: Note: There is NO Restart required. It gives another clickable button that says More Info and a line that says Who is Viewpoint?
This takes you to a description which includes the 'fact' that they are a NASDAQ company that provides internet graphics and delivery technology to Fortune 500 companies including AOL, GE, GM, etc. This did not make me feel better. When I clicked the NO THANKS button, just now, it finally went away. But, I have never heard of this software. Any time I play music or graphics I use Windows Media Player or Yahoo's player. Can you tell me if this is a problem or not? Thanks so much!
Sorry for the long-winded e-mail! The post: from Anti-Virus/ Security board labeled: Attention AOL Users by LarryD. I suspect this has been dumped on you by Yahoo (part of serving you better?)(Good enough for AOL!!) but am not sure as I refused Yahoos blandishments pushed by my cable ISP!
Spybot S&D should gut most of it depending on how much it's downloaded in back ground and an AV scan would also be advisable. Watch for any mention of 'System Volume' in scan reports(means System Restore is contaminated and needs to be dumped). Bob Profits 'pinned' Anti-Parasite post( A-V front page) will have a dwnld link if you don't already have Spybot. Drum Machine.
I was suspicious about this too (even though it seemed fairly innocuous and the window appeared to have a convincing professional style to it). Wasn't sure how I got ViewPoint on my Win2K machine but learned through another forum that it might come from having AIM. X Padder. Apparently you can click on 'More Info' and then there will be a 'No Thanks' option that you can click on to make the window go away (temporarily?). Rather than taking a chance on the 'No Thanks' option (and risk the update window returning someday) I went straight to Add/Remove and uninstalled ViewPoint Media Player.but the update window remained. I then uninstalled ViewPoint Manager and THEN (finally) the update window went away (FYI).
